Finding the perfect wedding venue can be a daunting task in Austin, Texas. There are hundreds to choose from and each has something special to offer. So, how do you figure out which one is best for you? Well, for starters, if you want a modern industrial feel, skip the castles. The right venue sets the stage for your wedding. That way, you narrow down your list to get started. You'll also want to think about how far you want people to travel? Will there be drinking? Look for locations that are close to hotels or have accommodations on site. By the time you are ready to go look at venues, you should have narrowed it down to your top five sites that fit your location and style needs. However, there is still a lot to consider. Below are a few of the many questions you will want to consider when booking your venue. 1 - How long will we have access to the space? This is important, especially if you plan on having your ceremony and reception at the same location. Many Austin area venues only include a four-hour time span in their packages while others give you the whole weekend. Four hours may be enough for the ceremony and reception but does that include set-up and cleanup? And, what about time for the couple to get ready on site if need be? 2 - Can you accommodate a live band and/or DJ? A question many people forget to ask. For Austin live band lovers, this can be a huge disappointment if not asked ahead of time. Some venues don't have the capacity for a twelve person ensemble. It's not just about capacity. It's about space layout and the sound system capabilities of the site. 3 - Will you work with the coordinator I've hired? We aren't talking about whether or not they will work with Heart & Arrow Events, we're talking in general. Sometimes, venues have their own coordinators and want you to work specifically with them. While we think it's great they have their own coordinators, it's important to note their coordinators represent the venue first. If they have their own coordinator, are they at the beck and call of the couple? Are they willing to cue the ceremony and make sure the photographer is getting all the right photos? 4 - Can I bring in my own vendors or must I stick to the preferred vendors list provided by the venue? Having a preferred vendor list means that whomever you hire from that list has worked at the venue before and knows how the venue likes things to be done so you don't have to worry about figuring it out. There are some vendors who are not on the list simply because they have not worked there but are great vendors. So, it's always good to check to make sure you can still bring in your favorite cupcake maker or performer. In some cases venues will have a preferred vendor list that you can veer from as long as you pay an additional fee. 5 - Can we bring our own alcohol? Some venues will allow you to bring your own, while others only allow you to go through them. There are ups and downs to both, you just want to know your options. Either way, make sure to also ask if they provide TABC certified staff or if you have to hire them. Want more? Download the full list of Questions to Ask of Venues.
